West Jersey Rebels Swing into Action!
This past September marked the beginning of a brand new program for The O League. In just a few short weeks, coaches, parents, and players came together to form The West Jersey Rebels, a baseball club consisting of a 12-year old and a 13-year old team, with home fields in Westampton, NJ. The Rebels definitely made a name for themselves as part of the Tri-State Elite (TSE) Baseball League in the Fall, and they plan on continuing to hone their skills and talents during the off-season and beyond.
The inaugural Fall season for the 13U West Jersey Rebels was an adjustment period for players and coaches as the boys moved from a 50/70 to a 60/90 field. Their season got off to a great start at their home field on September 11th with an opening night comeback win followed up by a blowout victory on the road the next day. The rest of the Fall season was filled with lots of peaks and valleys. Impressive victories and tough walk off losses. The 13U Rebels finished with a 5-10 overall record which really isn't indicative of the talent level and heart of the team. The boys were extremely competitive in almost every game and always fought to the final out. Through it all they gained invaluable experience playing on the big field in the short Fall season which should pay big dividends when they resume in the Spring of 2016. There is a good core group of players in place and a stable, caring, enthusiastic coaching staff. The future looks bright for the 13U West Jersey Rebels and this team can only go up from here.
The 12u West Jersey Rebels also started their season off on September 11th, playing their first game in Westampton. Although they fell just one run short, they had an impressive opening game. The 12U team consisted of a mix of some old and new faces, as many of the players had played together on the same team during the summer season, while they welcomed a few new faces to complete their roster. Each of the players brought their own set of skills and talents. All of them, in just a short time, learned to use their individual talents for the betterment of the entire team. They played in their first tournament together in Swedesboro, where they faced some very competitive teams. However, throughout the season, the collective efforts of both the players and the coaching staff led them to a 4-5-1 record.
Both teams are already preparing for the 2016 Spring/Summer season. They will be starting their winter workouts in January, during which they will be training with their coaches and working on both fielding and batting skills. The whole Rebels family is looking forward to another challenging, fun and exciting season!
